After I had Tyler I began attending homebirth groups. A woman in the group was actually doing natural infant hygiene, or EC: Elimination Communication, with her own daughter and was very successful. I purchased the book that she recommended and began right away. I was successful immediately and got really excited about it. But, in all honesty I kept it pretty down low because I’m already a freak, I wasn’t sure how committed to it I was going to be and I didn’t need people to see me fail at something that I wasn’t even doing full force. Anyway, long story long, I tried it, it worked and then I backed off probably more than I should. It’s really difficult to do when you are experimenting and have a second child, and life in general to tend to. In retrospect, I wish that I would have begun with Justin. Poor Justin, such a guinea pig. I know I’ve ruined him already. But, as we stand I am pleased with our progress. Basically, Tyler knows what to do on a potty. Sometimes he does it, sometimes he doesn’t, but we continue to try. I figure any use of the toilet now will help until I really have the time, energy, and will to follow through regularly. This is what EC looks like in our home…

I love that Justin's finger is in this picture.
Tyler loves to play with Justin when he does his business.

I look like the devil! Hmmm, maybe a snack will help...or a book about going to the potty.
